Increasing the possibility of conceiving with sperm wash
Frisco couples who are in the process of addressing infertility issues may learn about a variety of procedures and techniques used to achieve successful conception. Fertility preservation is important and can be achieved with a treatment called a sperm wash.

What is sperm washing?
Sperm washing is a process during which the sperm is separated from the semen. This is often done as part of artificial insemination through IVF (in vitro fertilization) and IUI (intrauterine insemination). During this process, non-mobile sperm and mucus are removed, which greatly improves the chances of conception through IVF and IUI. The process takes place in the laboratory after semen has been supplied, and has been performed for many years with great success.
Why is sperm washing performed?
There are many reasons sperm washing is performed for fertility preservation. The process:
-
- Is performed to prepare sperm for IUI and IVF procedures to increase the chance of conception.
-
- Can help in improving conception chances as it separates out the mucus as well as non-mobile sperm that may negatively impact the process.
- Allows a greater number of capable sperm to reach the egg, in the right place, at the right time.
